Problems accessing Turnitin.com

Several students have reported that they are asked for a class ID and password when submitting their reaction papers to turnitin.com via E-Learning. You should not need this information.

The campus E-Learning specialists recommend that all students should log on to E-Learning and try to submit a test paper before tomorrow’s deadline to make sure turnitin.com is working properly. If you are asked for a class ID and password, please call the UF Computing Help Desk at 392-HELP, and they should be able to help you resolve the issue.

Update, 3:35 p.m.: Many students continued to have problems and weren’t getting help from the Help Desk. We’ve been in touch with the Help Desk and E-Learning specialists and have posted a new link on the E-Learning site to submit your paper. So far, this new link appears to be working (for reasons no one understands). Please try to submit your paper again and leave a comment to let us know about any problems you encounter. Sorry for the confusion, and thanks for your patience.

Update, 9:52 p.m.: Unfortunately, the problem persists. See my comment below for the latest.

So we don’t need/have a class ID or anything? In order to even make an account it is required…

  2. Karolyn on September 18th, 2008 1:56 pm

I called the help desk and they said that there was nothing that they could do… so I am still unable to turn it in…

  3. Lauren Protzer on September 18th, 2008 2:03 pm

I did the same thing, as well how are we going to turn it in? And what would happen if we couldn’t turn it in at all?

  4. Andrew Lee on September 18th, 2008 2:17 pm

I just called the UF Help Desk and they told me that they don’t have an ID or password to give to me.

  5. Taryn Queen on September 18th, 2008 2:39 pm

I was reconnected to the elearning specialists and they said all I could do was keep trying. What happens if i can’t submit it to turn it in? I already submitted my paper copy to my TA.

i went in to the help desk, and a fellow named John helped me, and it arbitararily started to work. He said he had no clue why it was working now, as opposed to earlier. He said it might have something to do with the wireless conncetion in the Hub/Help Desk area (in that it works there).

I’m sorry many of you are still having problems. See my update to the original post — hopefully things are working now. Let us know if they aren’t.

  8. Sarah on September 18th, 2008 4:20 pm

If someone figures out how to turn it in without being “enrolled” in a class please post it on here, because I still can’t find a way to submit it.

  9. Kathryn on September 18th, 2008 4:26 pm

I clicked on our link in elearning and it sent me to either the home page link or the reaction paper 1 link. and I got it to give me an agreement form, but it still doesn’t create a profile for me.
Professor, can you please give detailed instructions because so many of us our new to this and it is quite frustrating and stressful. The update didn’t work for me. =[

  10. Heidi on September 18th, 2008 5:27 pm

I used the link on e-learning and then tried to create a new profile but it is still asking me for an account ID and join password. What do I do?

  11. Peter Van Warner on September 18th, 2008 7:19 pm

    Professor Gravlee,

I finished my paper and tried calling the UF help desk but they said they couldn’t do anything. Im going to just print off my paper and give it to my TA tomorrow before class because it wont let me into Turnitin. Please let me know if I can do anything else.

  12. Chelsea Burns on September 18th, 2008 7:38 pm

I tried to turn my paper in but it didn’t work, it took me to the turnitin home page. I called too and they said they’d call be back but I haven’t heard anything from them. I don’t know what to do because I don’t want to get points taken off.

  13. Stephanie on September 18th, 2008 9:19 pm

  14. Mike on September 18th, 2008 9:31 pm

I tried to turn in my paper as well, and I cannot find this new link that you mentioned Dr. Gravlee.

Can you please offer any more help?

  15. Candace on September 18th, 2008 9:49 pm

I am about to upload my paper, and it did not ask me for an ID or anything. I don’t know if it is the new link because it is in the same spot as the one before. It looks like it is going to work, but right before I pressed submit I realized that I did not write any page numbers after the information I took from the article. We do not have to do that for this essay, right? I will let you guys know if turnitin works for me.

  16. Lance Gravlee on September 18th, 2008 9:50 pm

We’ve never encountered this problem before, so I’m at a loss to explain what’s going wrong. My apologies for the frustration.

If you’re still having problems submitting your paper to turnitin.com, don’t fret. Bring your hard copy of the paper to class tomorrow, and we’ll sort out the problem with turnitin later.

Be sure to hand in the hard copy of your paper in class tomorrow. As the syllabus indicates, we will not accept late papers.

  17. Alex Fechtmeyer on September 18th, 2008 11:18 pm

I just finished my paper and i tried to log on to e-learning but the website is down.

  18. Caroline Wright on September 18th, 2008 11:21 pm

I had the same problem twice on turnitin.com but finally, third time was the charm. the key seems to be not to click new user. i clicked that the first time and it tried to make me submit a password.

  19. Oscar T on September 18th, 2008 11:26 pm

yes, now the elearning website is down altogether, i can’t even log in.

  20. Shannon R on September 18th, 2008 11:56 pm

So I’m not the only person not able to log into E-learning to turn the paper in??

  21. Sara on September 19th, 2008 12:02 am

Oh good, I thought I was the only one. I’ve been trying to log onto e-learning the whole night to turn in the paper and it wont even let me log in! I’ve been trying since 9pm. The whole website seems to be down!

  22. Shannon R on September 19th, 2008 12:55 am

    Hey
Anyone who was having trouble with E-Learning should give it a try. It wasnt working for me a while ago but now it is!

  23. Kelly Herremans on September 19th, 2008 1:04 am

The website is still not allowing me to log in.. I’ve been trying all night…

  27. Riley Oates on September 19th, 2008 6:55 am

Turnitin.com still isn’t working for me and I’m not exactly sure what to do!? It continues to ask me for a class ID and password…

  28. Monika on September 19th, 2008 9:05 am

…..I cannot access turnitin.com because of the user name and password.

  29. Kathryn on September 19th, 2008 5:54 pm

I FIGURED IT OUT! lol sign in to e-learning. click on the class link and then it will say reaction paper 1. (click it) and then click accept. and it should be able to just upload it from there.

  30. Angelica-Naia Gabor on September 22nd, 2008 12:11 pm

But it still asks for a class ID and a class enrollment password……what are they???

  31. Stephanie on September 22nd, 2008 3:33 pm

i still cant turn in my paper!!!!!!!!!!!

  32. Zachary Lewis on September 22nd, 2008 4:15 pm

  33. Hoa Tran on September 22nd, 2008 5:08 pm

That happened to me too, and i restarted and rebooted many times and it still didnt work.

    BUT THEN
when I was still on the page that asked to either accept or decline the terms of use, I refreshed it and it worked so

  34. Chelsea Burns on September 22nd, 2008 6:46 pm

Professor Gravlee, I called on thursday about my turnitin.com and my ticket was closed and it shouldn’t have been so I was never called back. I called again today because I was still having problems and they could not help me, they suggested that tomorrow morning I could get help. I’ll definitely try to get it in tomorrow morning but I know you said it should be in by tomorrow. My ticket number was 545-492 for confirmation. -chelsea burns

  35. Angelica-Naia Gabor on September 22nd, 2008 10:52 pm

    Professor Gravlee,

It says on the Turniitin website that you are supposed to provide use with the class ID and enrollment password.

  36. Angelica-Naia Gabor on September 22nd, 2008 11:18 pm

Okay, never mind. Turnitin works now!! I just logged onto E-learning, clicked on Human Sexuality…and then reaction paper 1. After that, a page came (different form the one where you would have to click on New User) and I just uploaded my paper. YAY!!!

  37. Leslie Howard on September 23rd, 2008 6:28 pm

I have still tried to send my paper to turnitin.com… And I’m still having problems because it’s still asking for the class id and username stuff.. I will keep trying but the problem still persists.

  38. Matthew on October 10th, 2008 12:25 am

turnitin.com is STILL Asking for a class ID I have no idea what this is, I know this was a problem before but it seems to still be one , any ideas?

  39. Matthew on October 10th, 2008 12:29 am

” javax.security.auth.login.LoginException: Turnitin assignments can only be created from a section context.”

This is what it did when I clicked the reaction paper 2 link, then when I clicked the “section context it said the second message.

    “”Error 404–Not Found

I submitted the paper for the 1st time in the turnitin.com. It gave me the result more than I expected. I have resubmitted the paper while making several changes, the reciept which was send to my email was the same reciept and body which I got it for the 1st time when I submitted. Did my revised paper submitted or not.? Or If submitted then why did it gave me the same body content, though I have made changes to my paper. Help me out..
