Heart of candyJust in time for Valentine’s Day, WebMD has launched a special report on “Modern Love: Relationships, Stress, and Your Health” (thanks, Stephanie!). The report includes articles on dating and finding love in a wired world, the science of attraction, and the health effects of stress in relationships.

Do the articles resonate with you? What lines of evidence and assumptions do the authors use to make their arguments? Check it out, and leave a comment to let us know.

Actually, I can COMPLETELY relate to this article. In March of 2006, I met my current boyfriend online. Though, it wasn’t actually a dating site; it was an online forum. I knew I loved him before we had ever even met face to face. In December of 2006, he flew down to see me for the first time, and we have been “officially” together ever since. He lives 3000 miles away in Seattle, WA, but we still find a way to fly one of us here or there at least once each month. It was difficult at first for me to tell my friends or even parents, but almost two years later I’m finally getting over that. I know that I am with the guy I’m going to marry. I don’t recommend such a long distance relationship to anyone as it does take a HUGE toll on one’s mind and body, but I know that for me personally, it is worth it because the love between us is so strong. I honestly believe this is due to the 8 months we spent talking online and over the phone before meeting one another. I know the idea of such a deep connection stemming from the internet may seem odd and creepy, haha, but I have come to think of it as more of a “Sleepless in Seattle” type of story. I think (and hope) that the weird factor associated with relationships beginning online will die down as the utilization of technology in finding love/lust/other? becomes more and more commonplace.
